Recently, there has been much talk about the need to spread democracy to the Arab and Muslim world. This initiative is led by the United States and some indigenous groups in the Middle East.

Among the reasons given for spreading democracy is that if more people in the Middle East were given an opportunity to play a role in their governance then they will be less likely to resort to terrorism as a means to effect political change.

The Free Muslims Coalition supports the promotion of democracy. However, the Coalition cautions that imposing democracy in the Middle East without solving essential disputes such as the Israel-Palestinian conflict may lead to extremist governments such as the one in Israel.
